School of Principle

Teacher of Zhū Xī and a third-generation heir of Chéng Yí, through Yáng Shí and Luó Cóngyàn. He spent forty years in retirement, teaching quiet sitting to clear the mind and experience heavenly principle (默坐澄心,體認天理). Zhū Xī first sought him out at Yánpíng in 1153; their letters survive as the Yánpíng Dáwèn (延平答問), compiled by Zhū Xī.
